Behind every painting is a story 🌺🌺🌺

Bali memories 2024. I started collecting pieces of fabric with a traditional West Javanese batik motif called “Megamendung”. The pattern is reminiscent of some kind of mystical clouds and comes in many colour combinations. My favourite involves a celestial blue, turquoise, and white. Adding the fabric ended up being the perfect compliment to this portrait of a woman with red hair.

Behind every painting is a story 🍸🍸🍸

This painting was a part of my New York nightlife series first shown at the Bruce R. Lewin Gallery in SoHo, NYC, 2001. Based on a story that a fashion model told me—about going to a party and “wearing the wrong shoes”. She said, “I felt naked”.
