There was a very striking woman whom I saw almost every day at the coffee bar across the street from my studio. In the most casual way she was perfectly in sync with the SoHo "summer look." The only little black dress she owned was a classic cut and perfect for the sculpture. Over the course of six months the sculpture went through many transitions, including three adjustments in the welded armature. Ultimately I thought it was more intriguing to sculpt the fleeting moment when the dress is neither on nor off.
