(631) 283-8546 EVENT: Opening Reception on Saturday July 7th from 68 pm for the debut of KEVIN BERLIN's new paintings "MADE IN CHINA" at RVS Fine Art on Jobs Lane in Southampton. BERLIN'S provocative solo painting exhibition entitled "MADE IN CHINA" debuts at RVS FINE ART in Southampton at 20 Job's Lane from July 5 through July 15, 2007. BERLIN'S "MADE IN CHINA" exhibition was inspired by the less than authentic "Louis Vuitton" and "Gucci" style handbags and other fashion goods sold on the streets near his studio in Florence, Italy. BERLIN'S bold, larger than life, oil on canvas paintings were mostly painted in a factory in China. BERLIN explores globalized fine art production in these new works. The production of BERLIN'S "MADE IN CHINA" paintings is akin to the production of Andy Warhol's internationally acclaimed "Factory" silk screens of the 1960s and beyondthey are powerful expressions of the artist's vision, created with the help of highly skilled assistants. While BERLIN'S exhibition may raise more questions than it answers, BERLIN'S real passion lies in the strength of the images themselves. "To me, each handbag is like a flower, or a landscape- there is more than first meets the eye... I search to reveal a hidden interior and exterior life." Featured works include: "Big Red," "Double F," "XL," "69," "Complete Belt Collection," and "Southampton Town," a play on the designer green trash bags from the local Hamptons waste disposal center. Artist KEVIN BERLIN studied classical Chinese painting at Yale University in 1988, and won a grant to travel extensively in China in 1989 with the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing. Made in China Series
KEVIN BERLIN'S works are found in the collections of Buzz Aldrin, Kim Basinger, Henry Buhl, David Letterman, Luciano Pavarotti, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Quincy Jones, General Motors Corporation and Carnival Cruise Lines. BERLIN, a Yale alumnus, has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Miami Herald, USA Today as well as CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood, MTV, Tokyo Television's "Morning Satellite" program and BBC Radio. Berlin was honored by President Reagan at the White House in 1983 as a Presidential Scholar and YoungARTS awardee.
