When Kevin Berlin first moved his studio to SoHo, he "hated it" because it was "kind of like living in a fashion magazine--everybody was so well groomed." He often made trips north of Houston Street just to see some people wearing color. Eventually he decided to embrace the downtown, SoHo lifestyle and the Women Wearing Black series was born. These New York cultural icons include all the essentials: bartenders, bodyguards, martinis, and the de riguer little black dress. Most of the models were 'discovered' in the shops and on the streets of SoHo.
