One night at the Rainbow Room I politely requested to speak with the chef regarding caviar preferences. I had to find the right tin for my painting. A maitre d', apparently fearful of being quoted, gave me the telephone number of the director of public relations. After some convincing the director graciously put me in touch with Chef Waldy Malouf, who spoke eloquently on all the favorite types (it really varies by taste). Still tinless, I stumbled upon the name of the Rainbow Room's caviar distributor while begging for free empty caviar tins at a local SoHo gourmet shop. The result: I had the honor of speaking about my Snack series to the Rockefeller Center Club as part of an exclusive "private caviar tasting" at the Rainbow Room. The painting was the guest of honor.
