Kevin Berlin’s solo show “Downtown Bellybuttons” will be featured at, Bruce R. Lewin Gallery in New York City, from March 29 - April 21. The exhibition will kick off with a dramatic evening where art, fashion and performance merge with one of Berlin’s original “Runway Shows” featuring a re-enactment of “The History of Bellybuttons in Art.”Highlights of the performance include The Venus de Milo, The Dark Ages, The Renaissance, Surrealism, Pop Art, and Berlin’s new work “105 Bellybuttons.”

Using revealed “bellybuttons “ as a starting point, Berlin’s large canvases and small works on paper reflect his observations of“downtown” nightlife - bodyguards, bartenders, and women in little black dresses drinking martinis. Featured canvases include, “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” “The Velvet Rope,“ The Bartender’s Dream,” and “The Bastard, I’ll Kill Him.”

Berlin’s works are found in the collections of Kim Basinger, David Letterman, and Presidents Clinton and Carter. Berlin, a Yale alumnus and SoHo resident, has recently appeared on CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood, in Japan on Tokyo Television’s “Morning Satellite” program, as well as in The New York Times Sunday Magazine and The Daily News.

Highlights of the evening include Cipriani’s signature drink, the Bellini, and a raffle of premiere items from SoHo hotspots and shops including Sundari, and Kenneth Cole.

Proceeds go to benefit the SoHo Partnership; A non-profit organization that provides job training and job placement to New York City’s recovering homeless men and women.
